Government Initiates ‘Bharat Atta’ Scheme at Rs 27.5/kg Ahead of Diwali

The Central government has launched the ‘Bharat Atta’ wheat flour scheme at a subsidized price of Rs 27.50 per kg. This initiative aims to provide economical wheat flour to underprivileged sections of society. ‘Bharat Atta’ is fortified with a blend of wheat, rice, and pulses, serving as a rich source of essential nutrients including protein and iron.

Implemented through the Public Distribution System (PDS), the scheme ensures easy access to affordable wheat flour. Cooperatives NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar will facilitate the distribution through their vast network comprising 800 mobile vans and 2,000 outlets nationwide.

Underlining the significance of the scheme, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted its success and formal launch, aiming to make the flour available to all citizens at a subsidized price.

Additionally, the government has allocated 2.5 lakh tonnes of wheat, to be converted and sold as ‘Bharat Atta’, to Nafed, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandars from the Food Corporation of India. These initiatives aim to regulate food prices, extending to subsidized rates for other commodities like chana dal and onions.
